FAQs
DO YOU OFFER CUSTOM DYEING OR PRINTING ON STOCK FABRICS?
At Organic Cotton Plus we are proud to offer custom printing and dyeing services using low impact fiber reactive dyes. Customers can submit a color swatch for us to match or we can dye to our own color palette. Typically the cost of custom printing and/or dyeing is a $2.00-per-yard fee plus the cost of the fabric, and the minimum quantity is 1,000 to 1,500 yards. Please contact us if you have any questions about our custom printing and dyeing services. Additionally, we can provide rates for custom dyeing yardage amounts of 100-yards up to 500-yards. Or we can provide the name of a dye house which handles small-quantity dyeing orders of less than 500 yards if you are unable to meet the minimum requirements for custom dyeing.
ARE MY FABRICS READY TO BE DYED OR PRINTED ON WHEN I RECEIVE THEM?
Yes – unless you have ordered “Greige” fabric. Most of our fabrics have been washed, scoured, or washed-and-scoured before being put on a roll. These fabrics are ready to be dyed or printed on the moment you receive your order. Other fabrics, labeled “Greige,” go directly from the loom to the roll without being prepared and if you plan to dye or print on these fabrics you will need to wash and prepare them first. We recommend pre-washing and drying your fabric prior to dyeing, printing, or cutting patterns, and using normal clothing detergents and high-heat drying to ensure that any fabric changes happen before the fabric is used. Typical washing and drying guidelines used for any all-cotton garments are what should be followed for our fabrics.
WHICH FABRICS ARE OFFERED AT WHOLESALE?
All of the items sold on our website www.organiccottonplus.com are sold at wholesale prices.
CAN I SPECIAL-ORDER A FABRIC TO BE CREATED?
We are always interested in entertaining ideas for new organic fabrics to add to our stock line. If you use a fabric that you’ve sourced from another vendor and would like us to copy it – or make up a brand-new special order fabric (must be in quantities of at least 500-yards or more), we suggest that you email your request to info@organiccottonplus.com and we will create a proposal for you based on your specifications.
WHAT KIND OF DYES ARE USED IN YOUR ECO DYED FABRICS?
We use low-impact, fiber-reactive dyes in an environmentally-sensitive facility. Bleaching is done with eco-friendly hydrogen peroxide.
HOW MUCH BATTING/STUFFING WILL I NEED FOR MY PROJECT?
It’s hard to say – since cotton batting tends to compact over time, becoming more and more firm, it mostly depends on how big the article and how firm you’d like it to be stuffed. We sell our batting/stuffing in bags of ½-lb. or 5-lbs. only – and while it’s better to have more stuffing than you need because you can always utilize the extra in another project, you also don’t want to wind up wtih less than you need!
WHAT KIND OF FABRIC SHOULD I USE TO MAKE DIAPERS OR WOMEN’S PADS?
We find that the majority of our customers who make babies’ reusable diapers or women’s menstrual pads tend to purchase our Terry Cloth and/or our heavier-weight Flannels and Fleece for these items. Our thick, absorbent Terry Cloth is an excellent fabric for making diaper inserts and pads, while the Fleece makes great diaper covers as well as diaper inserts.
WHAT FABRIC IS BEST FOR MAKING SHEETS AND BEDDING ITEMS?
Organic Cotton Plus offers several fabrics that are perfect for making sheets, comforters, duvets, and pillow cases. Our 230-count Sateen, which comes in both 60” and 113” width, is our best-selling fabric for making bedding. We also offer 500-count Sateen in a 113” width and a 300-count Percale in 110” width. All of our bedding fabrics are particularly well suited for babies’ crib sheets and bedding for infants and toddlers too!
I WANT TO MAKE AN ECO-FRIENDLY WEDDING GOWN – CAN YOU HELP ME?
We certainly can! Organic Cotton Plus offers several natural fabrics that are simply beautiful when utilized in bridal attire. Our 230-count Sateen comes in both Natural and White, as well as Pink, Light Blue, and Navy (great for attendants’ gowns) and is a very popular fabric, especially when paired with our Natural and White Voile for sheer sleeves and overskirts. We also offer a decadently soft Natural Interlock with a gorgeous drape that is excellent for a flowing, body-hugging gown. And after being embellished with over-embroidery, beading, and sequins, the Voile makes lovely one-of-a-kind veils too.
WHAT FABRICS DO YOU CARRY THAT WOULD WORK FOR MATERNITY CLOTHING?
We carry Natural Interlock, Rib Knit, and several weights of Jersey (one which has 5% spandex) that are wonderful fabrics for making maternity tops and dresses. All these fabrics have just a tiny bit of “give” that will lend maternity clothing that comfy fit without being binding.
WHAT IS YOUR MINIMUM ORDER?
Orders of single swatches and swatch sets, or as little as 1-yard and as much as 500+ yards or even more can be placed directly through our website. Orders of 49-yards or less will be shipped only in single or multiple cut pieces of 1- to 5-yards or 10-yards at our discretion depending on the weight and width of the fabric. Orders of 50-yards or more will be shipped on single or multiple approximately 50-yard rolls. (Example: if you order 20-yards it can come to you in one of two ways, either as four 5-yard cuts, or two 10-yard cuts, depending on the width and weight of the fabric. An order of 100-yards would come as two 50-yard rolls.)
HOW FAST WILL MY ORDER SHIP OUT?
We do our best to ship goods within 24 to 48 hours of receiving the order. Our offices are closed on weekends, and any orders placed after 3:00 PM Friday will ship the following week. Orders placed over State and Federal holidays will be shipped following standard U.S. Post Office and UPS holiday shipping guidelines.
HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?
Orders can be placed directly through our website. When you have decided on a product that you wish to purchase, click on the box located to the right of where it says “Swatch $1.95” and the drop-down menu will appear showing the available yardage increments and the price per yard for each increment. Highlight the increment which best suits the amount of yardage you wish to purchase. Type the total number of yards in the box. After clicking “Add to Cart” the shopping cart and your selected purchases will be displayed at the top of the screen. If you wish to remove an item from your cart, click the “Remove” button. When you are through shopping, click “Checkout” to proceed to checkout. Then simply follow the prompts to enter your shipping information and payment.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR CHANGE MY ORDER?
Please note that we are unable to modify orders once they have been submitted. If you need to add items to your order, please place a separate order for any item not in your original order. If you need to cancel the order or change quantities, please contact us via email at info@organiccottonplus.com. For product return instructions please see the Shipping & Return Policy.
HOW CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY ORDER?
When your order is processed and shipped, a UPS tracking number will be emailed to you at the email address which you have provided to us. You will be able to use this number to track the status of your shipment at any time by going to www.ups.com or www.usps.com and entering the number in the appropriate location. We do not share your email address with any outside company or source.
WHAT IF I ORDERED AN ITEM THAT WENT OUT OF STOCK BEFORE MY ORDER WAS SHIPPED?
We do not ship incomplete orders without contacting you. If an item on your order goes out of stock between the time the order is placed and when it is processed for shipping (yes, it happens!), we will contact you to suggest substitutes. We will also give you information about back-ordering the item, if this is possible.
I LIVE OUTSIDE THE U.S., CAN I STILL PLACE AN ORDER?
We welcome international orders and are proud to say that we have customers located in almost every corner of the globe! However, international customers need to be aware that additional charges may be added when your package passes through Customs. Although we are aware of these additional charges, unfortunately they are entirely out of our control to avoid. Because international customers are required to pay shipping, a Revised Invoice or Paypal invoice which includes the shipping charges will be emailed to you. After the Revised Invoice or Paypal invoice has been processed with your credit card information the goods will ship on the next available weekday. Please allow extra time for shipping on all international orders. Please note that once a U.S. First Class or Priority International Mail package leaves our facility we cannot track it beyond a certain point. In addition, if the package “goes missing” the Postal Service does not go out of their way to locate it. The estimated shipping time for Priority International Mail is 6-10 days but both First Class International and Priority International Mail can take as long as a month to reach your destination. If after a significant amount of time has passed and you feel that your package has been lost in transit, please contact us immediately and we will do our best to track and locate it for you. If it indeed has become lost, we will gladly ship a replacement to you at no additional charge.
WHAT FORM OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept all major credit cards – Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover. Customers can pay through PayPal as well. We do not accept personal checks, bank checks or money orders at this time.
I HAVE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITIES, CAN YOU HELP ME?
Many customers with chemical sensitivities come to Organic Cotton Plus for relief. Having chemical sensitivity presents a lot of challenges because there is no one size fits all solution-every person has his or her own sensitivities. Organic Cotton Plus focuses on creating fabrics and materials that are sustainable, and good for the earth. Luckily, what is good for the earth often coincides with what is best for people with chemical sensitivities. In using the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), we’ve raised the bar in terms of disallowing many common inputs that are both bad for the earth, and can cause reactions. In addition, the fabric rolls are individually wrapped very securely to prevent any contamination to our warehouse in South Carolina. Finding the right fabric is a journey for each of us, and we always recommend that customers test the fabric beforehand.
WHAT ABOUT CERTIFICATION?
Organic Cotton Plus is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) certified. You can shop with the confidence knowing that the product you’re buying is certified organic, and the business you’re buying from has values aligned with your own.
