Ahimsa silk (aka peace silk) is produced without harming the silk moths (Bombyx mori). Ahimsa is a Hindi word that means non-violence. Unlike regular silk, the ahimsa silk fiber is processed and spun after the moths emerge from their cocoons (every cocoon is checked individually). While the resulting fabric is not as lustrous as regular silk, it has a beautiful sheen and is softer.
