The mill has ISO 9001:2000 certification and the workers belong to a national trade union.  The workers are paid a living wage and have paid holidays, and generous paid maternity and breastfeeding leave. I am attaching the organic certification for the facility involved in the manufacture of this fabric.  The hemp is grown on individual small farms, which makes certification difficult, so the fiber is tested for pesticides when it arrives at the processing facility.  The hemp is retted in a pond, and mechanical processing removes the fiber from the rest of the stalk.  Potato starch is used for sizing the yarns for weaving.
